Construida por orden de Don Afonso Henriques, en 1147, la Catedral resume ocho siglos de historia de la ciudad, con estilos tan diversos como el románico, el gótico, el barroco, el manierista, el neorrománico o el neogótico. Ahora, también tendrá retazos del siglo XXI gracias a la cuidada renovación del arquitecto Adalberto Dias, que ha recuperado los claustros superior e inferior y ha creado un nuevo núcleo arqueológico visitable. Pero lo que más destaca de esta intervención, es el templete elíptico revestido de azulejos artesanales espejados que consigue reflejar el paisaje. ENG Lisbon’s Patriarchal Cathedral is one of the oldest and most symbolic monuments in the country. Built by order of King Afonso Henriques in 1147, the Cathedral encapsulates eight centuries of the city’s history, with styles as diverse as Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Mannerist, Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic. Now, it will also feature elements of the 21st century thanks to the meticulous renovation by architect Adalberto Dias, who has restored the upper and lower cloisters and created a new archaeological centre that is open to visitors. But the most striking feature of this renovation is the elliptical temple clad in handcrafted mirrored tiles that beautifully reflect the surrounding landscape.
